A solo project for a course focused on copywriting. I was challenged to create a campaign for the XP-Pen Artist 12 using 2 print executions, an OOH execution, a sales promotion, a new media concept, a radio spot, and a television spot.

OOH - Billboard

Located in Chicago on Ida B. Wells Dr., directly East of the freeway. Using a billboard allows for a large format that ties into the idea of growing your creative, and also allows the plants to extend above the billboard. Ida B. Wells goes to both Columbia College Chicago and the School of the Art Institute, both major art colleges downtown which would have students fitting the target audience of this campaign. It could also be adapted to smaller OOH tactics such as bus shelters for non-commuter students.

Sales Promotion Concept

XP Pen’s products tend to be full tablets or accessories, but they generally come with the accessories already, so a BOGO or a gift with purchase isn’t reasonable. The programs used with the tablet are generally more expensive—Photoshop, Corel Painter—or free, so offering a free program with purchase would be a big cost to XP Pen. A bundled discount, however, would add value that may incentivize someone to purchase. XP Pen would be partnering with Corel to offer a bundle discount, which ties into the idea of “grow your creative” by growing your arsenal of creative tools and programs.

Digital/New Media Concept

XP Pen Artist 12 – “Grow your Creative Q&A Sessions”
This would be a series of livestreams via the Twitch platform, which is a popular site for live video. XP Pen would collaborate with digital artists who would stream on the platform while using the Artist 12 to create a piece of work. Viewers would be able to see both the artist working and a mirror of the screen that is being worked on. Viewers are invited to ask questions of the artist regarding their creative career, process, etcetera, as a way to grow their own creative knowledge. Streams would be advertised via social media, primarily Twitter, both from XP Pen and the artist featured on that stream. After the stream is over, the footage would be uploaded to YouTube so that people may continue to watch in the future, or reference the video if there was something in particular that stood out to them.
Radio Script
MUSIC:    “HEART AND SOUL” PIANO TUNE
SARAH:    When I was 5, my mom took me to my first ballet lesson.
SFX:        BALLET INSTRUCTOR GIVING DIRECTIONS, CHILD CRYING
SARAH:    That… didn’t go so well. Next was tee-ball, which, well…
SFX:        BAT HITTING BASEBALL, SOFTLY
MOM:        (Exasperated) Sarah, you’re supposed to run!
SARAH:    …Yeah, not exactly my cup of tea. Do I even go into the piano lessons?
SFX:        PIANO BEING PLAYED ALONG TO “HEART AND SOUL”, VERY POORLY
SARAH:    My poor mom. Lucky for her—and me—we eventually figured it out.
SFX:        PENCILS SCRATCHING
SARAH:    I started drawing classes when I was 11. I loved it.
I don’t think my mom really knew what we were getting into when I started painting a few years later. We had an entire room dedicated to all my supplies. I spent practically all of high school in there. But…
SFX:        SCHOOL BELL RINGS
SARAH:    Starting college meant a bit of a free space downgrade. Driving 6 hours home to paint isn’t exactly practical. That’s why I bought an XP Pen Artist 12. It’s a display that I can plug directly into my laptop and draw on. It’s easy to take with me on the go--even when I’m visiting mom I find myself using it instead of hauling out all my brushes.
MOM:    What did I even buy them for, then?
SARAH:    Thanks to the XP Pen Artist 12, I’m able to continue growing my creativity.
